How Many Followers Do You Need to Earn Money on Instagram in India?
When Indian creators start getting paid — nano and micro influencer tiers, what brands actually check, and the other ways to earn from Instagram before brand deals.
Indian creators can start earning on Instagram from around 1,000 to 10,000 followers, the nano-influencer tier, usually through barter deals and small paid posts from local and D2C brands. Brands care more about engagement, niche and audience location than the follower number alone. Affiliate links, selling your own products or services, and Instagram's own creator tools are other routes.
There is no single follower number where the money starts. But there are clear tiers, and brands in India now work with creators much smaller than most people assume.
Influencer tiers
| Tier | Followers | Typical deals |
|---|---|---|
| Nano | ~1K–10K | Barter, small local and D2C brands |
| Micro | ~10K–100K | Paid posts, product launches |
| Mid-tier | ~100K–500K | Regular paid campaigns |
| Macro and above | 500K+ | Large brand campaigns |
