Compress PDF to 200 KB

Choose a PDF and it is reduced to 200 KB or less, ready for job applications and government portals. The tool tries the gentlest compression first and shows the new size before you download.

How the tool gets a PDF under 200 KB

  1. Photos first. It recompresses the photos inside the PDF step by step. Text, fonts and drawings are left exactly as they are, so text stays selectable and sharp.
  2. Pages as images, only if needed. If the photos are not the problem (a scan, or many pages for a small limit), it turns each page into a compressed image, lowering resolution until the file fits.
  3. Smallest it can, if it cannot fit. You get the smallest version with its size, and can decide to split the PDF instead.

When it cannot get small enough

  • Too many pages for the limit. A 30-page scan rarely fits in 100 KB and stays readable. Split it with Split PDF and upload the parts, or keep only the pages the form asks for.
  • Scanned too large. Scan or photograph at a normal resolution, then build the PDF again with JPG to PDF after shrinking the photos in the image compressor.
  • Colour you do not need. Black-and-white or greyscale scans of text documents are much smaller than colour ones.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a PDF under 200 KB?

Choose the PDF and the tool compresses it to 200 KB or less. It first recompresses the photos inside the PDF, which keeps text selectable, and only turns pages into images if that is not enough. The new size is shown before you download.

Will the text still be selectable?

Usually, yes. Text stays selectable when compressing the photos is enough to reach the size. For scans, or PDFs with many pages and a small target, pages are turned into images; the tool tells you when it did this.

What if it cannot reach the size?

You get the smallest version the tool could make, with its size. To get under 200 KB, split the PDF into parts with Split PDF, or remove pages you do not need, and compress again.

Is 1 KB 1,000 or 1,024 bytes here?

1,024 bytes, the way most forms and operating systems count. A 200 KB result passes forms that use either definition.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is compressed in your browser and never leaves your device.
