Video Hook Generator
Describe your video in a sentence or two and get eight opening lines to say or show in the first second, each with a different angle and a note on why it works. Pick the one that matches what really happens in the video.
What makes it work
The first second decides whether someone keeps watching. TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels all measure how many viewers stay past the opening and how much of the video they watch, and they show videos that hold attention to more people. A good hook or title gives a specific reason to keep watching and then the video delivers it.
The generator writes eight options with different angles. Pick the one that matches what really happens in your video: a hook that promises more than the video delivers gets swiped away a few seconds later, which hurts more than a plain opening.
Hook patterns that work
| Pattern | How it works | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Surprising result | State the outcome first, explain after | I studied 12 hours a day and my marks went down. |
| Specific number | A number makes the promise concrete | 3 phone settings that doubled my battery life. |
| Direct question | Ask what the viewer is already wondering | Why does every new phone feel slower after a year? |
| Stakes | Say what is at risk or what it cost | This mistake cost me ₹40,000 in my first month. |
| Story opening | Drop into the middle of the moment | Two minutes before the interview, I lost my voice. |
| Contrarian | Disagree with common advice, then prove it | Stop posting every day. Here is what worked instead. |
How to use a hook
Say the hook in the first second, before any intro, logo or greeting, and put it on screen as text at the same time, since many people watch with the sound off. Keep it under about 12 words so it fits on two lines of captions. If you are cutting a clip from a longer video, start the clip on the sentence that works as a hook rather than adding a new one on top.
Common mistakes
Warming up first
“Hey guys, welcome back” spends the most valuable second on nothing. Start with the hook.
Promising what the video does not deliver
Viewers leave as soon as they notice, and the platform reads that as a weak video.
Hooks that need context
If the line only makes sense after watching the rest, it is not a hook. It should work for someone who has never seen you.
Same hook every time
Rotate patterns. A formula your audience recognises stops working.
