HEIC to JPG Converter
iPhone photos are saved as HEIC, which many Windows PCs, websites and forms cannot open. Convert them to JPG here, one photo or a whole batch, without uploading anything.
85–90% looks like the original for most photos.
Larger images are scaled down; smaller ones are left as they are.
What happens when you convert HEIC to JPG
The photo is decoded on your device and saved again as a JPG, which every phone, computer, editor and upload form opens. At 90% quality the JPG looks the same as the HEIC, but the file is usually larger, often about twice the size.
Camera details and GPS location stored in the HEIC are not copied to the JPG, so the converted photo is safer to share. Live Photo motion and depth data are dropped too; you get the still photo.
HEIC vs JPG
| Format | Transparency | Compression | Animation | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HEIC | No | Lossy | No | iPhone photos: about half the size of JPG at similar quality, but many apps, websites and Windows PCs cannot open it. |
| JPG | No | Lossy | No | Photos, and sharing anywhere: every device and app opens JPG. |
When to convert HEIC to JPG
- A Windows PC or an older app shows an error or a blank thumbnail for photos from an iPhone.
- A government, exam, job or visa form accepts only JPG or JPEG.
- You are sending photos to someone whose phone or software does not support HEIC.
Tips for the best result
- To stop an iPhone making HEIC files at all, set Settings > Camera > Formats to Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG.
- Settings > Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC > Automatic makes the iPhone convert photos to JPG when you copy them to a computer over a cable.
- Need a smaller file for a form? Convert here, then use the image compressor to bring the JPG under the size limit.
