HEIC to PNG Converter

Turn HEIC photos from an iPhone into PNG files that open everywhere and can be edited and re-saved without further quality loss.

Larger images are scaled down; smaller ones are left as they are.

What happens when you convert HEIC to PNG

PNG is lossless, so the converted image keeps exactly what the HEIC decodes to, with no new compression. The files are large, often five to ten times the size of the HEIC for a photo.

Camera details and GPS location are not copied to the PNG. Live Photo motion and depth data are dropped; you get the still photo.

HEIC vs PNG

HEICNoLossyNoiPhone photos: about half the size of JPG at similar quality, but many apps, websites and Windows PCs cannot open it.
PNGYesLosslessNoLogos, screenshots, graphics with text, and anything needing a transparent background.

When to convert HEIC to PNG

  • You will edit the photo several times, for example in a design tool, and want to avoid repeated JPG compression.
  • A template, print shop or design tool asks for PNG.
  • You plan to cut out the background next and want a format that supports transparency.

Tips for the best result

  • For sharing, emailing or upload forms, JPG is the better choice: much smaller and accepted everywhere. Use HEIC to JPG instead.
  • PNG does not make the photo transparent by itself. Remove the background afterwards with the background remover.

Frequently asked questions

Is HEIC to PNG better than HEIC to JPG?

For editing, yes, because PNG adds no compression. For sharing and uploads, JPG is better: the files are several times smaller and the difference is not visible.

Why is the PNG so large?

PNG stores every pixel without discarding anything, which suits graphics but makes photos large. A 2 MB HEIC photo can become a 15 MB PNG or more.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

No. A photo has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the original background. Remove the background separately if you need transparency.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser and the photos never leave your device.
