Convert images between formats in your browser: JPG, PNG and WebP, ICO for favicons, and from AVIF, SVG, GIF and BMP. Convert a batch at once, resize, and download everything as a ZIP.

Which format should you use?

FormatTransparencyCompressionAnimationBest for
JPGNoLossyNoPhotos, and sharing anywhere: every device and app opens JPG.
PNGYesLosslessNoLogos, screenshots, graphics with text, and anything needing a transparent background.
WebPYesLossy or losslessYesWebsites: smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality, with transparency.
AVIFYesLossy or losslessYesVery small web images; newer, so some apps and editors cannot open it yet.
GIFYesLosslessYesSimple animations; limited to 256 colours per frame.
SVGYesVector (no pixels)NoLogos and icons as vector shapes that stay sharp at any size.
BMPNoLosslessNoLegacy Windows software; uncompressed, so files are very large.
ICOYesLosslessNoWebsite favicons and Windows icons; one file holds several sizes.

In short: JPG for photos you share, PNG for graphics, text and transparency, WebP for anything on a website, and ICO for favicons.

How it works

The converter uses your browser's own image engine. Images are decoded, drawn onto a canvas at the size you choose and saved in the new format, all on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so it works with private photos and stays fast even for large batches.

Lossy formats (JPG, WebP) let you pick a quality level: 85–90% looks identical to the original for most photos at a much smaller size. Setting a maximum width resizes large images down, which often saves more than the format change itself.

Common mistakes

  • Saving logos and screenshots as JPG

JPG blurs sharp edges and text and cannot keep a transparent background. Use PNG or WebP for graphics.

  • Expecting a conversion to add quality

Converting a JPG to PNG keeps it exactly as it is; it cannot restore detail that was already compressed away.

  • Uploading full-size photos to a website

A 4000-pixel photo shown 1200 pixels wide wastes bandwidth. Set a maximum width and convert to WebP.

  • Re-saving the same JPG over and over

Each lossy save loses a little more detail. Keep an original, and edit from that.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using its built-in image engine. Your files never leave your device, which also makes the tool fast for large batches.

Which formats can I convert to?

JPG, PNG, WebP and ICO. You can convert from JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG and ICO.

Why can’t I convert to AVIF or from HEIC?

Browsers cannot reliably save AVIF, and most cannot open HEIC (iPhone photos) at all. Rather than upload your files to a server to do it, this tool only offers conversions it can do on your device. On iPhone, setting Camera > Formats to Most Compatible saves photos as JPG.

Does converting remove photo metadata?

Yes. The image is redrawn and saved fresh, so EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location is not carried over. That is usually a privacy benefit; keep the original if you need the metadata.

Is there a file size or count limit?

Up to 30 files at a time and 50 MB per file. Very large images (over 50 megapixels) need a maximum width set, to stay within browser memory limits.
