Passport Photo Maker

Turn a phone photo into a passport or visa photo: the background becomes white and your face is sized and centred for the country you choose. Download a single photo or a print sheet ready to cut.

How it works

  1. Choose a clear, front-facing photo. A phone photo taken by someone else, at arm’s length or more, works well.
  2. The background is replaced with plain white and the face is sized and centred automatically for the photo size you pick.
  3. Check the guides: the top of the head on the upper line, the chin inside the shaded band. Drag or use the size slider to adjust.
  4. Download a single photo for online applications, or a print sheet of 4 × 6 in or A4 photo paper with cut lines.

Everything happens in your browser. The photo is not uploaded, which matters for identity documents.

Passport photo sizes (checked October 2026)

SizeUsed forHead (chin to top of hair)
35 × 45 mmUK, EU and Schengen, Australia, most countries; many Indian forms and ID cards29–34 mm
2 × 2 in (51 × 51 mm)US passport and visa, Indian passport and visa25–35 mm
50 × 70 mmCanada passport31–36 mm

Requirements are set by each authority and do change. Before printing or uploading, check the current rules on the official passport, visa or exam website you are applying to.

Taking a photo that is accepted

  • Face the camera directly with a neutral expression and mouth closed; both eyes open and visible.
  • Even light on the face, with no shadows across it or behind you. Daylight facing a window is ideal.
  • No glasses for most passports (the US, UK and India all ask for none), no hats, and nothing covering the face.
  • Keep the camera at eye level, about 1–2 metres away, and zoom in slightly rather than standing close.
  • Plain clothes that contrast with a white background; avoid white tops.

Printing passport photos

Download the print sheet as PDF and print it at 100% / actual size, not “fit to page”, on glossy or matte photo paper. Most photo shops and pharmacies print 4 × 6 in sheets cheaply from a file on your phone. Cut along the grey lines.

Online applications

Digital uploads usually set pixel and file-size limits instead of millimetres, for example at least 600 × 600 pixels for the US, or 20–50 KB for many Indian exam forms. Download the single photo, then bring it under the limit with the 50 KB or 100 KB compressor. The step-by-step guide to photo sizes for online forms covers the common requirements. Common mistakes

  • Head too small or too large

The most common rejection. Keep the top of the hair on the upper guide and the chin inside the shaded band.

  • Printing with "fit to page"

Scaling changes the physical size, so a 35 × 45 mm photo prints at the wrong size. Always print at 100%.

  • Shadows or a patterned background

Even when the background is replaced, harsh shadows on the face remain. Use soft, even light.

  • An old photo

Most authorities want a photo taken in the last six months that looks like you today.

Guides

Frequently asked questions

What size is a passport photo?

35 × 45 mm in the UK, EU, Australia and most countries; 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm) for US and Indian passports and visas; 50 × 70 mm for Canada; 33 × 48 mm for China. Check the current rules for your application.

How do I print passport photos at home or in a shop?

Download the print sheet PDF and print it at 100% (actual size) on 4 × 6 in or A4 photo paper, then cut along the lines. Photo shops can print a 4 × 6 sheet from your phone cheaply.

Will the white background be accepted?

The tool produces a plain white or light grey background as most authorities require. Acceptance also depends on lighting, expression and head size, so follow the guides and the authority’s rules.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The background removal and resizing run in your browser; your photo never leaves your device.

Can I use it for online applications?

Yes. Download the single photo; if the form has a file-size limit, compress it with the 50 KB or 100 KB compressor.
