How to Take Meeting Notes in Google Meet (By Hand, With Gemini, or With an AI Bot)

Three ways to take notes in a Google Meet: by hand with a simple structure, with Google's Gemini "Take notes for me" on eligible plans, or with an AI note taker bot that works on any account and in any language.

To take notes in Google Meet, either write them yourself in three lists (decisions, action items with owner and date, open questions), turn on Gemini's "Take notes for me" if the organiser's plan includes it and the meeting is in one of its 8 languages, or add an AI note taker bot such as Boostlix Notes, which works on any account and in any language and emails the minutes when the meeting ends.

There are three ways to take notes in a Google Meet. Which one fits depends on your Google plan, the meeting's language, and how much you want to do yourself.

1. By hand, with a structure

Open a doc next to the meeting with three headings and fill only these:

  • Decisions: one line each.
  • Action items: task, owner, due date.
  • Open questions: and who will find the answer.

Five minutes before the end, read the action items aloud to confirm owners and dates. Afterwards, add a two-line summary and send it using a minutes of meeting email.

Turn on captions (the CC button) to follow fast speakers or accents; they are not saved, but they help you keep up.

2. With Gemini ("Take notes for me")

If the organiser's plan includes it, click the Gemini notes icon at the top right and Start taking notes. Notes go into a Google Doc in the organiser's Drive. It supports English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, one per meeting. See Gemini notes in Google Meet.

3. With an AI note taker bot

A bot joins as a visible guest, records the meeting and writes notes afterwards. It works whoever organised the meeting and whatever their plan, and does not need you to keep a tab open.

Boostlix Notes names speakers from Google Meet, transcribes the language actually spoken (including Malayalam, Hindi or Tamil mixed with English), and emails minutes with decisions and action items, with a PDF. It records 10 meetings a month free; transcripts and minutes are on Pro.

Whatever you use

  • Tell everyone if the meeting is recorded.
  • Say action items out loud with a name and a date: notes, human or AI, get them right when they are said clearly.
  • Send the notes the same day.

Questions this raises

Does Google Meet have a built-in note taker?

Yes, "Take notes for me" with Gemini, on eligible Workspace and Google AI plans, in 8 languages, one per meeting. Notes are saved to the organiser's Google Drive.

How do I take notes in Google Meet without recording?

Write them yourself, or use captions to follow along. An AI note taker needs to record the audio to transcribe it; tell participants before using one.

What is the fastest way to take meeting notes?

Capture only decisions and action items during the meeting, then fill in the summary afterwards. Or let an AI note taker do all of it and only check the result.
