Google Meet transcript

How to transcribe a Google Meet, in any language

Google Meet can transcribe meetings itself on some paid Google Workspace plans, in a limited set of languages. On a free Gmail account, or when people mix languages, an AI note taker that joins the call is the practical way to get a transcript and minutes.

Option 1: Google Meet's own transcripts

On eligible Google Workspace plans, the organiser (or someone in the same organisation) can start a transcript from Activities, then Transcripts. The transcript is saved as a Google Doc in the organiser's Drive after the meeting. It is not available on free personal Gmail accounts, and it supports a limited list of languages.

Option 2: live captions

Anyone can turn on captions (the CC button) and choose the spoken language. Captions are not saved, so they help you follow the meeting but do not give you a record of it.

Option 3: an AI note taker that joins the call

A note-taker bot joins as a guest, records the audio, and writes the transcript and minutes afterwards. It works whoever organised the meeting and whatever Google plan they are on, because it joins like any other participant and has to be admitted.

Boostlix Notes does this for Google Meet: it reads Meet's captions to name each speaker, transcribes the recording in the language actually spoken (including several languages in one meeting), and emails you minutes with decisions, action items, owners and due dates, plus a PDF.

  • Paste the Google Meet link in Boostlix Notes, before or during the meeting.
  • Admit "Boostlix Notetaker" when Meet asks.
  • Hold the meeting; the bot leaves when everyone else has left.
  • Get the transcript, minutes and recording on the meeting page and by email.

Tips for an accurate transcript

  • Ask people to use headphones; echo is the biggest cause of errors.
  • Have people say their name the first time they speak in a large meeting.
  • Spell out names, brands and numbers that matter, and repeat action items at the end.

Questions

Can I transcribe Google Meet for free?

Meet's own transcripts need an eligible paid Google Workspace plan. Boostlix Notes records 10 meetings a month free on any Google account; transcripts and minutes are part of Pro, $15 a month for 60 meetings.

Does the meeting organiser need to do anything?

Someone in the meeting has to admit the bot when it asks to join, like any guest. Nothing needs to be installed.

Can it transcribe a meeting in Malayalam, Hindi or Tamil?

Yes. Boostlix Notes detects the language and writes each word in the language it was spoken, so mixed speech such as Manglish or Hinglish stays readable. The minutes are in English by default, or in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil and other languages.

Can I get a transcript of a meeting that already happened?

Only if it was recorded. A note taker has to be in the meeting while it happens.
